Off Into the Wild Blue Yonder

Up early to hit the gym and get the old blood circulating before getting on a plane for 5 hours.  I’m hoping the combination of pre-flight exercise, travel sox, and mid-flight plane change will help with the cankle situation I’ve experienced the last few times I’ve flown.  I tried to drink a lot of water (and iced tea, I’ll admit) and when I got to the hotel and took a look at my feet they looked pretty close to normal.  Those circulation socks aren’t the most attractive of accessories but if they work who really cares, right?  I snuggled up to the window today and watched the landscape slip by below.  I was reminded of a dot to dot picture when I saw a scattering of intersecting lines and dots.  I can’t tell what the picture was supposed to be, but it intrigued me.

Puff Ball clouds ala Bob Ross…Three hairs and some air.

Descending into Tampa, the clouds became more swollen and caused turbulence upon entering them.

Once we broke through we were greeted with this bit of loveliness.

Good Night!

And Today for Breakfast

Since I’ve been on kind of a breakfast theme this week I think I’ll stick with it.  In an attempt to reduce the produce and other perishables in my fridge before I go out of town once again I broke into the new muesli I got from King Arthur Flour.  I meant to make them overnight oats but it turned into early morning oats because I forgot to put them in to soak last night.  I really liked the mix…I soaked it for a couple of hours in some soy yogurt and they were slightly chewy and sweet.  I topped them with half a peach and a sprinkle of pecans for a great start to a busy day.  Errands to run, TJs for plane snacks, packing to be done, cleaning and laundry on the list, oh and a pedicure.  I went to a new place for a pedicure today.  I was in Office Depot and saw a “walk-ins welcome” sign on the nail salon across the street so I popped in for a quickie.  I was given a beautiful pedi, plus a foot massage that was just this side of painful.  Feets are happy tonight!

Another Pie for Breakfast

OK, so this really wasn’t a pie more like a pocket, but it kind of looked like one of those jelly glop filled hostess pies from school lunches years ago.  Although we never got those pies in our lunch because mom thought they were junk and we probably couldn’t afford them either.  Back to breakfast pie…this was Amy’s Tofu Scramble in a Pocket served up with a touch of salsa and some OJ.  It gave me an idea of something to do with a darling little pie press that I bought but have yet to use.  Why not make little breakfast pies that I could freeze?  I’ve been pondering some fillings based on a tofu scramble…just subbing various veggies, seasoning and fillers like “sausage” I’ll bet I could come up with some handy grab and go breakfasts for both N. and I.  Let the experiment begin (well when I get back from Tampa anyway).

Standard pocket pie with salsa

Could have been cuter made in this…and breakfast should be cute

Strawberry Pie for Breakfast

Well ok, I’m using the term pie loosely.  In an attempt to break out of my smoothie in a bowl routine I went with pie in bowl.  This particular pie consisted of a carton of plain Whole Soy yogurt, topped with sliced strawberries which were slightly less tasty than the ones we get in early spring at the strawberry stands.  For the pie crust component I chopped up an Amy’s strawberry Toaster Pop.  Remember I said this was breakfast and just use your imagination here.

It was actually quite tasty and it was only as I was eating it that I thought of the comparison to a pie…so there.

Babysitting

I wonder why it’s called babysitting.  You really don’t have time to sit down when you’re watching a baby.  Especially if said baby likes to keep moving at all times, whether it’s kicking the legs, or being bounced up and down, that boy never wants to stop moving.  There was no time to cook tonight since I was the designated baby walker.  T and R went out to Lucille’s to celebrate T’s birthday.  I can’t believe how old she’s getting while I simply stay as young as I want, or as young as I’m feeling at any given moment.  Sometimes it feels like 100 years after doing something particularly treacherous.  Like what do you do that’s treacherous, you’re thinking.  Sometimes simply getting out of bed can be treacherous and for some of us (who will remain unnamed) just sitting in a chair reading can be extremely treacherous.

So dinner from the freezer in the form of a Teriyaki Wrap.  Not looking real appetizing, I’ll admit,  but it tasted good.

And all because of this guy…what happens at grandma’s stays at grandma’s (I think he’s the one taking the picture…recognize the self-portrait pose?)
