MoFo #6 – Vegan Beer Fest

Thanks Quarry Girl  and Tony’s Darts Away for an awesome event.  We picked up our taster mugs and entered the festival.  From there it was all uphill.  We sampled brews from Brewbakers in Huntington Beach (my hometown) who, it turns out, have Rootbeer and Pretzel parties where you can make your own root beer and pretzels.  Sounds fun…if I ever have a staff meeting out here I’ll definitely keep that in mind as something fun for the group to do.  You can also brew your own beer with your own custom labels.  We had a taste of WychCraft Ale from EuroBrews, very smooth and sweet. Before we got too many brews in us we decided eating would be a good thing and there were so many choices since so many of LA’s Food Trucks were on site.  Including Yalla, Fresh Fries, Sea Birds, Mandolin Grill, and even though it’s not really a truck Franken’s was there with all his hot doggy goodness.  D. selected The Creature from the Franken Stand and claimed while it wasn’t exactly like a “Real” hot dog it did have a good flavor.  That’s why I love this guy, he’s always willing to give something a try!  J. got some plain fries from the Fresh Fries truck.  My choice was the “Fire Starter” from Yalla.  This sandwich is huge and delicious!  And definitely clears the sinus’.  T. had a dog from Franken’s and then the Potato-Jackfruit taquitos from Sea Birds and was kind enough to give me a bite of those.  Oh Yummo!  None of us knew what jackfruit was and googled it later on.  Not something you pick up at most farmers markets I guess.  We also picked up a little after lunch sweetie in the form of a Stout frosted Chocolate cupcake from Doomie’s Home Cookin’, which is happily reopening at a new location on December 11th.  Totally delish.  Will have to try that with my next batch of chocolate cupcakes.  In fact if I recall, my dad was asking for some beer cupcakes!  After the eats it was back to the beer tasting.  A little Pumpkin Ale that was mildly spiced but didn’t get the pumpkin so much.  I especially liked the Hemp Ale we tried, it had a distinctly green taste to it, a little grassy and not of the pot grassiness variety.

And now a few pictures:

Welcome to the Roxy

First sips in our cute little tasting mugs

Fresh Fries has some cute T-shirts with their Fry characters on them

FrankenStand

The Fire Starter from Yalla with pickled turnips, falafel, lots of purple cabbage and veggies, and a dose of peppercinis.  It started off like this and ended up as a big tasty mess in my bowl.

Potato-Jackfruit Taquitos, these were some good!

The crowd was building

Dessert from Doomie’s

Pumkin Ale from Bootlegger’s Brewery in Fullerton.  They had some coffee chipotle beer called Black Phoenix too that had a good cup of coffee flavor.

Hemp Ale

Friendly pour staff…all these guys at the tasting stands worked their butts off!

Cheers and see you next year!
